SPORTS LOUNGE SHOWING ‘EVERYTHING,’ INCLUDING FOOTBALL AND SOCCER GAMES, OPENING DOWNTOWN

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The duo behind two recently closed German Village businesses, Ferdinand Lounge and Bistrolino, are opening a “high-end sports lounge” Downtown that they say will show every sport, including those from across the globe.

A spot for food, drinks and sports, the Downtown business at 39 E. Gay St. is called “Capri.” Owners Sam Chedid and Francesco Todisco previously ran the cocktail lounge and bistro adjacent to each other in German Village. However, those closed on Aug. 23 over what they said were issues with the landlord.

Capri will be the fusion of a cocktail lounge that has what Chedid described as having a “cool and comfortable vibe” with a more traditional sports bar that has food, drinks and TVs.

“Most times you want to go watch sports in Ohio, it’s more of a dive bar atmosphere,” Chedid said. “We wanted to put both together, a spot where you can actually go watch a game, but if there’s no sports on you can go out with your girlfriend, husband, wife or significant other and you can have a craft cocktail.”

One thing Chedid said sets Capri apart from other sports bars is its viewing selection. The Downtown spot will have at least 10 TVs showing local favorites, like NFL and college football, as well as sports from around the world that may be harder to find at a Columbus establishment. That includes not just the Premier League and Formula One, but much more.

“We plan on showing everything,” Chedid said.

In addition to its wide variety of sports, Capri will offer typical bar food. Chedid mentioned shrimp gazpacho, carpaccio and air fryer wings as a few of its menu items. For drinks, it will serve Mediterranean, Italian and Lebanese wines, craft cocktails, and beer.

Chedid said he hopes the sports lounge will be up and running by the last week of September, although the date hasn’t been set as they await inspections and other factors that could delay its opening.
