NETFLIX MURDER MYSTERY THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB GETS EXCITING UPDATE FROM AUTHOR

Richard Osman, the author of the best-selling mystery novel, The Thursday Murder Club, has confirmed that he won't be getting involved with the filmmaking process, nor will he make a physical cameo in the upcoming Netflix film. Most importantly, Osman said that the movie has officially wrapped production. It's somewhat surprising to see an author take a hands-off approach to a feature film adaptation of one of their books, but Osman wants the movie to stand as its own piece of storytelling, rather than an extension of his acclaimed series of books. The uniquely British film has garnered interest from audiences across the world, thanks in large part to its phenomenal cast. Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Ellis, Daniel Mays, and more! The project is also being produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment production company.

Speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio X, Richard Osman revealed that yesterday, September 11, was the last day of filming on The Thursday Murder Club, and that the movie is now headed into post-production. The author said that he's giving director Chris Columbus and the studio full control over the movie. "I've been down [to set] a few times, I'm leaving them to it," Osman revealed. The author, and former TV producer turned host, continued:

"My job is to write the book, they're making the film of it but I've been down a few times."

Sadly, for fans hoping to see Richard Osman's unmistakable 6'6" frame appear on-screen, the author has completely ruled out appearing in front of the camera. Osman said any form of physical cameo would be too distracting. However, Osman has admitted to including "one little voice thing" in the film. He said:

"I might do one little voice thing, but I can't be [in it]. People going, 'Why is the guy from Pointless in a Sussex police station?' It'd be a bit odd."

What Is The Thursday Murder Club About?

The Thursday Murder Club follows four friends in an English retirement community. In their free hours, the friends enjoy solving cold crimes. However, when the group find themselves involved in an actual crime, their jokey moniker as The Thursday Murder Club becomes very real. The official synopsis reads:

"In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty, but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves."

During a recent interview with MovieWeb, The Thursday Murder Club star, Tom Ellis, gave the inside scoop on the film, and revealed his excitement about joining the all-star cast. Ellis said:

"I am incredibly excited about the cast and the director. It's about 75% of my bucket list of people I wanted to work with in one job. So, that is what I'm really excited about, and just observing all this greatness. Just being part of it, I'm thrilled."

The Thursday Murder Club is expected to be released by Netflix in 2025.
