SOUTH PARK CREATORS' CASA BONITA FILM GETS NEW TRAILER AND RELEASE DATE

South Park fans no doubt are familiar with Casa Bonita, a Denver restaurant that features prominently in a classic season seven episode. Well, Casa Bonita is officially making a comeback in a new documentary from the creators of South Park, and it just received its first trailer and theatrical release date.

According to Variety, the documentary, ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!, will premiere in Denver on Sept. 6 and will hit theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston and other select cities starting Sept. 13. For those who won't be able to attend a screening, the documentary will drop on Paramount+ in the fall. The documentary will follow South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker as they attempt to restore the iconic Denver restaurant which is considered the "Disneyland of Mexican restaurants." The documentary won the audience award at the Tribeca Festival, and is directed by Arthur Bradford.

South Park's four main young protagonists have offered up hilarious moments but are far from the only hilarious characters in the series.

The trailer for ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! goes into detail about Stone and Parker's longtime obsession with the landmark restaurant, which led to their inevitable purchase of it when the opportunity presented itself. However, the restaurant was in dire need of restoration at the time of the purchase, which is detailed in the trailer as well. ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! comes from the producers of another movie featuring Stone and Parker, 6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park, which documented the rigorous process of how an episode of South Park is completed in such a short amount of time.

Casa Bonita is a Classic Episode of South Park

There are many hilarious and iconic episodes from the long-running animated series, but "Casa Bonita" stands as one of the show's best. The episode originally aired back in 2003, in season seven. The premise of the episode is that Kyle is having his birthday party at Casa Bonita, which immediately excites his friends, especially Cartman. However, Kyle doesn't extend the invitation to him, instead asking Butters to tag along. However, Kyle says Cartman can come if for whatever reason Butters can't attend, prompting Cartman to craft one of his classic evil plans to ensure Butters can't make it.

As one of South Park's most beloved characters, it's not surprising Chef's sudden departure generated confusion and controversy.

South Park is still going strong, having wrapped it's 26th season back in March of 2023. There hasn't been any word on an official release date for the 27th season yet. However, the show was extended for four more seasons, so fans have no need to worry. Stone and Parker are also set to work on a movie with rapper, Kendrick Lamar, which will reportedly be a live-action comedy. That film is slated to be released on July 4, 2025.
