ROCK HALL 2024: 6 BURNING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE INDUCTION CEREMONY
We are one month out from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony making its triumphant return to Cleveland.
Why it matters: The inductions will take place in northeast Ohio for the first time since 2021, where they are expected to generate an economic impact of more than $35 million.
Driving the news: The Rock Hall this week announced events leading up to the Oct. 19 ceremony at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, including a Music Industry Career Summit for students on Oct. 5 and a free Celebration Day on Oct. 13.
- The annual Inductee Exhibit, honoring the class of 2024, will open on Oct. 11.
Yes, but: There are still several questions to be answered about the inductions in the coming weeks.
👀 Who will attend?
The intrigue: 2024 inductees Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Foreigner and Robert "Kool" Bell (of Kool & the Gang) have said publicly they will attend.
- There hasn't been much word from fellow inductees A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige and Dave Matthews Band, but the latter two have performed in recent ceremonies.
🧑🏻🎤 Will they perform?
State of play: Only Frampton and Foreigner have talked about performing.
- Cher came out of retirement to perform at the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, while Osbourne recently retired from touring due to a spinal injury.
🔚 Who will close the show?
💭 Troy's prediction: You can probably bank on Dave Matthews Band performing and closing the festivities.
- The group will likely have the biggest fan base present for the two-time winner of the annual fan vote.
👋 What about guests?
Between the lines: The Rock Hall typically waits until a week before the ceremony to unveil which celebrities will induct each artist.
- Frampton has credited recent inductee Sheryl Crow with helping him get inducted and there's a chance she could show up to honor him.
😯 Will there be a surprise concert?
Flashback: Green Day held a surprise concert at Cleveland House of Blues for its induction in 2015. Foo Fighters did the same in 2021.
- No word yet on any impromptu gigs, but the Rock Hall did promise "more exciting announcements with Induction Week events" in a press release this week.
