The September 18, 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite was not as noteworthy as recent weeks, slowing down in terms of big angles and momentum. This is likely due to AEW settling before a major week next week, as both Dynamite & Collision will take place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium for AEW Grand Slam 2024.
NXT continues building and filling out the card for their CW launch show.
The last few bits of build before next week were laid down, in addition to continuing some ongoing feuds from up and down the card. Whilst there were not as many headlines as usual, there are still things that fans need to know from this weekâs show, such as storyline developments, notable victories, and more.
In recent weeks, Will Ospreay told Ricochet to get some wins before challenging him for the International Championship. Ricochet has done just that, adding a win over The Beast Mortos this week to make him 3-0 in singles action since his AEW debut. In a backstage segment, Ricochet and Ospreay got heated, and Ricochet declared that heâd spoken to Tony Khan and had been granted a title match on Dynamiteâs 5-Year Anniversary show on October 2.
Ricochet also said to Ospreay that everyone was talking about him and not the champion, before âlittle bro-ingâ him to end the segment.
Private Party were interviewed on AEW Dynamite this week, stating that they would bring the fight to Jon Moxley and co. after being attacked on last weekâs show. When Moxley & his allies were making their entrance, Private Party & Komander attacked them from behind, prompting a brawl. It was Moxleyâs crew which got the upper hand.
Tony Khan has sometimes dropped the ball when it comes to AEW in 2024.
Private Party were offered a brutal beatdown, and Moxley cut a scathing promo, insulting them for being in the same spot they were in five years ago. Moxley attacked Isiah Kassidyâs arm, offering him something to overcome. Darby Allin would then emerge, fighting off the group before stating that he would beat Moxley next week and go on to face Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream.
In recent weeks, Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy kickstarted their rivalry once again, with Jericho still fuming over Cassidy ruining his expensive jacket four years ago. They battled in a lengthy singles match on AEW Dynamite this week in a match which certainly exceeded all expectations, especially since Jerichoâs matches and feuds have been pretty poor in recent months.
The pair went back and forth for nearly 20 minutes, with Cassidyâs Conglomeration friends evening up the odds against Jerichoâs cheating allies of Big Bill & Bryan Keith. In the end, Cassidy stole a roll of quarters that Jericho had in his hand, which enabled him to hit a big Orange Punch to score the victory.
In a backstage segment on AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxleyâs new breakaway faction cut a promo directed to Wheeler Yuta. Claudio Castagnoli & PAC said that Yuta needed to sort out his priorities and step up to defend the AEW World Trios Championships. Moxley also provided an ultimatum that Yuta needed to choose between them and Bryan Danielson.
From his babyface run to his status as the best heel in wresting, AEW fans get certain things wrong when it comes to MJF.
Yuta responded in a promo himself, and looked completely out of it. He managed to get his thoughts in order, stating the following advice heâd received from Danielson, âYou donât change who you are just because those around you are changingâ. Whilst it seems as though his side is chosen, he did agree to help to defend the AEW World Trios Titles that the group won at AEW All In 2024.
The main event of AEW Dynamite saw a wild trios match between The Don Callis Family and The Elite. The end of the match had Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher working together to pin Matthew Jackson, building momentum ahead of their AEW World Tag Team Championship match at Grand Slam next week against The Bucks.
During the match however, there were some issues bubbling between Ospreay and Takeshita, and that boiled over post-match as the pair got in each otherâs faces and pushed each other around. This could hint at issues within The Family in the coming weeks, and it is something for fans to keep an eye on.
